Look what tanabata made! Isn't she amazing! Thanks for letting me snag it, it's perfect.
Today, I'm in London, and then Japan, as a woman is remembering her life after the war in Japan. There is some strange undercurrent in this book, A Pale View of Hills by Ishiguro. His writing is amazing, he so quickly immerses me into his worlds.
Where is reading taking you today?
Salem right now--in the 1690s (The Heretic's Daughter) and also off and on in Kurdish Iraq (My Father's Paradise). I need a good beach book!!
ReplyDeleteI'm in Haddington, Indiana. Langston Braverman has returned home after walking out on her PhD oral exams. The local preacher, Amos Townsend is dealing with his own crisis of faith. I'm only a few pages into this one, but it looks good so far.
ReplyDeleteThe Solace of Leaving Early by Haven Kimmel.
Great button!
ReplyDeleteNice button!
ReplyDeleteI made it to Mrs Dalloway's party. This is the longest day of my life.
I'm also playing strange postal games with Truman Capote and Nelle (Harper) Lee. Capote in Kanas
I'm in Nigera now, life is very unsettled as various political parties are vying for our votes (in underhand ways), and my father is having none of it. Oh, and I can also see ghosts and spirits and often experience weird dreamlike realities.
ReplyDeleteThe Familshed Road, Okri
Well let's see:
ReplyDeleteI'm mostly in the Manhattan area or Hollywood with actress Rosamond Pinchot and her decendents in The Lovliest Woman in America written by her granddaughter.
I'm also ion an island in Lake Superior (Madeline Island) with a tribe of Ojibwa Indians that focuses on the life of a little girl whose name means Little Frog (The Birchbark Tree by Louise Erdrich)
Finally I am a teenage boy in Ontario, Canada who has a terrible disease that no one has ever been able to diagnose. But he has now found out that he is a vampire and is learning the truth about his past and running from a great Vampire who is after him.
Glad you like the button. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure I have A Pale View of Hills in my TBR mountain somewhere but I haven't read it yet.
Today I'm in Darfur, and have just narrowly escaped death.
Mine's here.
I'll try this again. Unfortunately, didn't work the first time.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, as I was saying the first time, it sounds like Nicola was suffering from some gender confusion issues. Poor woman. ;)
Me? I'm not changing sexes today, although I may get a Messiah complex later today. To see what I'm talking about, visit here.
I'm not sure exactly where I am, but I just got out of prison and my wife has died and an odd man has offered me a vague job. I keep running into really strange "people." (American Gods by Neil Gaiman)
ReplyDeleteI am having a gender issue today too. Last time I looked, I had a husband.
I am with Becky in an expensive cake shop, sipping champagne and test-tasting samples of wedding cakes while trying to decide if she should be married at the Plaza in Manhattan or in her family's garden in Oxshott, England. (Shopaholic Ties the Knot by Sophie Kinsella) Diane
ReplyDeletetrish - I think of it as Captain Crunch after a month of Bran Flakes. I know the bran is good for me, and it does taste good, but the Cap'n Crunch is sooo good for a change, that I inhale the whole box in two days. Any lighter books planned?
ReplyDeletesuziq - Is it fiction? I've read Kimmel's memoir of growing up, and have the sequel here. I liked it a lot.
3m - I know! It is perfect.
chris - is that the graphic novel, Capote? I've seen that in the school library.
I bet Mrs Dalloway's party is long and boring.
katrina - a Booker winner. Are you pleased with it so far?
I am in China with Flashy in the 1870s. so far I have inadvertently sailed a load of guns up the Pearl River, and now that the authorities have caught up with me it looks as though I am going to have to do some more hero type stuff.
ReplyDeletenicola - you had me going with that last one! I was thinking it was a heartbreaking, real life, inspirational type of book. Vampires!
ReplyDeletetanabata - thanks again for the button. Darfur sounds intense.
justareadingfool - Cavalier and Klay is one I'd like to read. For some reason, it reminds me of a Canadian short commercial we see with Shuster who developed Superman. Probably nothing in common.
terri b - ooh, American Gods, that's was a good book. Quite an adventure you'll be on now. I loved the Russian guy who worked in the slaughterhouse.
bookinhand - fun with Becky! the Plaza or England? How will Becky ever decide? This is one that Trish should read next, it would be perfect.
ReplyDeletemarg - sounds like you are going to be on quite an adventure! Good luck, I can see you fighting your way out of this mess.
I am here

I'm in an almost post-apocalyptic world in The Diamond Of Darkhold, fourth book in the Book of Ember series. The blog tour is September 29-30, so I'll tell you more then, but it's pretty exciting!
ReplyDeleteI'm in Ireland and the moment, fighting against the British.
ReplyDeleteYes, this one's fiction. I loved her memoir (A Girl Named Zippy). I hardly had any time at all to read today so I'm really looking forward to getting further into The Solace of Leaving Early tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteRight now I'm in New Orleans post-Katrina, in Recovering Charles by Jason F. Wright. I'm just getting started with it, but so far it's shaping up to be a great read, and a really touching story of healing and hope.
ReplyDelete1700s London, and Benjamin Weaver's latest adventures during an election year.
ReplyDelete"A Spectacle Of Corruption" by David Liss.
