MEME: Booking Through Thursday

Anticipation:

Last week we talked about the books you liked best from 2007. So this week, what with it being a new year, and all, we’re looking forward….
What new books are you looking forward to most in 2008? Something new being published this year? Something you got as a gift for the holidays? Anything in particular that you’re planning to read in 2008 that you’re looking forward to? A classic, or maybe a best-seller from 2007 that you’re waiting to appear in paperback?

With all the reading challenges going on, I've got tons of books I'm looking forward to. The first ones I am looking forward to:

The Book Thief (already on page 180)
Brainiac - got for Christmas
Atonement - the movie previews are driving me nuts
Never Have Your Dog Stuffed - Alan Alda is funny and cool
The Remains of the Day - I read my first Ishiguro last year and loved it!
The Lost Highway - another new author I really enjoyed last year

I'm also looking forward to going to the Pub - a reading challenge focused on reading books published in 2008. I'm not sure yet what books those will be - other than I know Sophie Kinsella has a new book coming out this spring.

  1. I hope you love The Book Thief as much as I do!

I'm also thinking about Remains of the Day. I've not heard a bad thing about it, and I loved the movie.

  2. I got the film of Remains of the Day for my husband for Christmas - it's one of his favourite films.

  3. I just got a TON of new books to add to my already massive TBR pile but I can't wait for some new releases that come out this year.

I'm going to be reading The Book Thief soon.

  4. I have 'Atonement' on Mt. TBR too, but I'm pretty sure I won't see the movie irregardless of whether I manage to read the book this year.

    Happy new year!

  5. I answered this question on 3M's blog too - and I chose Atonement by Ian McEwan. I also have Remains of the Day on my Man Booker Challenge read list - and it sounds really good too.

I hope you're enjoying The Book Thief.

    =) Jill

  9. 3M - I just picked up Remains of the Day at the library today. The Book Thief is a little slow, because I find Nazi Germany books hard to read

gautami - I thought I was the only one who hadn't read The Book Thief yet

tink - I started Brainiac today to rest off the book Thief. My sister and I gave each other Brainiac for Christmas

karen! - I'm sure I won't see the movie, but awards shows tell so much about movies, I don't want ot know anythin gbefore I read it.

I dont' know if enjoy is the right word. I'm tentative as I go, because of the material. But i love the writing.

kristy - thanks for stopping by

bookgal - I thought I was the only one left who hadn't read The Book Thief!

wendycat - I've been waiting to read The Book Thief for a while now so it was great to get it picked up and started. It seems to read quite quickly, except I keep setting it down becasue I know it is going to be heart wrenching.
