BLOGGING: It's Tuesday, where are you?

Are you on a real vacation or is reading your main way to get away? Since I'm not travelling anywhere in real life, I'm using my reading to get away. Right now I am finishing up an Australian vacation after a whole week. Too long! I needed only a Fraction of the Whole. I am also starting a time travel back to 1860s England to investigate a murder with Mr Whicher, who is very Suspicious.

Where is reading taking you today?

  1. Right now I am somewhere in London or one of her suburbs with Albert Campion, trying to figure out how his class bully, nicknamed Pig, was killed and buried a few months ago and appears again dead at the present time in the book. (The Case of the Late Pig by Margery Allingham)

  3. I, too, take most of my vacations through the books that I read. This past weekend I spent some time in Paris (Me Talk Pretty One Day by David Sedaris) and now I am in Middleton, Wisconsin for a few days (Sophie's Heart by Lori Wick). Diane

  5. I'm in 1950's Japan where I'm about to get married. It's big news because I'm marrying the Crown Prince. I'm the first commoner to marry into the Japanese imperial family.

The Commoner by John Burnham Schwartz is fiction, but clearly based on Empress Michiko of Japan.

  6. Hmmm... I'm reading a book right now that I actually have no idea where it takes place! Some city in the US I guess. (The Truth About Forever by Sarah Dessen.)

BUT... I just finished The Little Prince and there, I was bouncing around from tiny planet to tiny planet! :)

I am also in North Carolina, I've just met Inman who has just left hospital, not really sure what is happening as I have only just started this book (Cold Mountain)

  8. Unfortunatley for the last few years I've taken all my holidays through books. Just got a promotion at work so hoping to use that extra money each month so I can spend 4 weeks next summer backpacking around Sri Lanka, or maybe South Africa

  10. To find out where I be, click here, and today, I'm jealous of Katrina, who wants to go to Sri Lanka or South Africa. I've only been out of the country twice: once to the Bahamas and a few times to Canada.

  11. As I tracking down what is reported to be the first complete map of the world I'm traveling between China in the 1420s, Portugal in the 1490s, and present day. "The Map Thief" by Heather Terrell.

  12. Oh, heck, it's Tuesday? I'm totally losing track of time.

I agree Fraction was too long. It's an exhausting book.

I'm bouncing back and forth between New York and North Carolina to view the Civil War in The Words of War. Not sure what just happened in Down to a Sunless Sea -- I was in New York, though, and I wasn't a very happy boy. I'm also taking a boat ride to Alaska, enjoying the spray in my face and (apparently) the only person who doesn't mind the movement of the boat in Travels in Alaska. And, I'm hoping my hopeful future British in-laws have figured out I hate tomatoes while I'm flopping at their flat in England in Queen of Babble. Whew! I'm not getting a "real" vacation, either. Bummer.

  13. I'm all over the place right now!

With the 8yo in our read aloud we are still with Dr. Dolittle. We've been on Spidermonkey Island for over a year now and getting anxious go back home to England. (The Voyages of Dr. Dolittle)

I'm also in 1860s England working on a true crime involving the brutal death of a three year old boy. (The Suspicions of Mr. Whicher by Kate Summerscale)

Last night I just finished working a case in backwoods Tennessee with the Body Farm owner. (Carved in Bone by Jefferson Bass)

And in a few minutes I'll be venturing to Rome with Lady Victoria Gardella Grantworth de Lacy. (The Bleeding Dusk by Colleen Gleason)

  14. I've just left behind the wilds of the Welsh Marches (The Wild Hunt by Elizabeth Chadwick) and moved to contemporary Washington State where I suspect I am having a bit of a mid life crisis (Susannah's Garden by Debbie Macomber).

I am also in 1850's Japan and have just been chosen to be the concubine of the Shogun (The Last Concubine by Lesley Downer).

  15. I'm still in Brooklyn with Francie in A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, by Betty Smith.

But I'm also in the north of England at St. Oswald's, a public school, where there is an imposter who may, or may not, have murder in mind. (Gentlemen and Players by Joanne Harris.)

  17. I just finished a voyage to the ends of the earth with Prince Caspian in The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. It was very fascinating.

And now I'm in Dallas with an FBI agent who also likes to chase storms! I don't really cherish coming eye to eye with a tornado though! The Splitting Storm by Rene Gutteridge
