Blue Shoes and Happiness by Alexander McCall Smith, 256 pages
book 7 of 12 in series; Mystery and Suspense Challenge
Even less of a mystery in this book, just some situations that need dealing with, but Precious deals with them, and has some tea, in her usual style. The pace of life, and the book, is so slow, that it feels meditative. Such a wonderful read! Yes, this will be the year I get caught up in this series.
Mma Ramotswe is beginning to think her traditional build, of which she is so proud, is perhaps becoming too traditional, so she contemplates a diet. Did Grace Makutsi ruin her marriage chances by admitting she's a feminist? Will Mr Polopetsi overstep his ground by taking initiative? Will the apprentices ever learn?
I read like book 5 in this series and rather liked it, but despite several tries have never been able to get interested in book 1... I should try again one of these days...
ReplyDeleteI've got the first book in this series patiently waiting for me on my shelves. I just never pick it up....some day I will remedy that.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this book, and the series. I enjoyed Mma R's decision about whether or not to continue the diet. :<)
ReplyDelete'Meditative' is just the word.
kailana - I took a break for a few years, but am back reading them again. They are very quiet, and if you aren't in the mood to enjoy the quiet, they would be rather blah.
ReplyDeletesam - I especially like how short they are - most are just around 200 pages, which is pretty good considering not much ever really happens:)
nan - I was pleased with myself when I came up with 'meditative'. I was surprised that Mma R decided to try a diet at all! But she had so many comments and signs in that book, she pretty much had to try. For a few hours, lol.
I've read all but the newest one coming out in a week or so. I love this series and the characters. I do want to try watching the TV series sometime as well.
ReplyDeleteI read the 7 one in the series. It was fun.

I took a break from this series almost two years ago. I think Blue Shoes is the next one for me. I think I'll try to get back to the series this year.
