CHALLENGE: It's the End of the World Challenge Update

Don't cry because it's over. Smile because it happened.
-- Dr. Seuss

Well, another bites the dust, but not in the good, stadium-rock way of Queen. More like "here's a challenge that didn't get done." Considering that this is a genre I love, and books I nearly always enjoy, I don't understand what happened.

Here was the list of books I had I hoped to read three from:

Children of Men - PD James

Cloud Atlas - David Mitchell

Oryx and Crake - Margaret Atwood

Pretties - Scott Westerfeld

Cat's Cradle - Kurt Vonnegut

Life As We Knew It - Susan Beth Pfeffer

Only one got read. Pretties was very good. Life as We Knew It is still on order at the library. I really thought it would be here and I could read it before September 15th. I read a review of Oryx and Crake that made it very difficult to imagine picking it up, thanks for the heads up Jill.

And poor Cloud Atlas! I have it here, and I can't wait to read it, it just never got picked up. It's perennially my next read on the bedside table. Someday! The others were library reads and I never got around to picking them up.

How many challenges haven't you finished this year?

(I am down to two books in each of title and author in the A to Zed challenge, and I don't know if I'm going to make it. Who reads 24/26 books and can't finish a challenge? Oh right, me last year in the same challenge.)

  1. This year I am completely caught up in my challenges! Because - I didn't join any. I'm horrible at doing them.

Cloud Atlas is a perennial on my TBR shelves too. So many new books. So many library books. So little time.

  2. You can still read Oryx and Crake for the Canadian one ;)

I haven't completed the Russian challenge yet, but I've still got some time left.

  3. I've finished one challenge, the Southern Reading Challenge. But, I completely failed another. I'm into the Canadian challenge, now, and loving it -- sporadically. I just toss in a Canadian read, whenever I feel like it and that's working fine. In general, I've discovered I'm not a fan of challenges and I'll only join in if I can choose as I go. I really don't like having my reading all planned out. I'm far too spontaneous.

  4. carrie - Someday, we'll read Cloud Atlas.

john - can't see it happening. Russian challenge, shudder. But you seem to enjoy it. Are you nearly done?

bookfool - everyone has to find the fun in the challenges that works for them. Interesting that you and booklogged are not into the challenges so much anymore, and (I blame you) you both got me into them, with the Chunkster and the Classic, almost two years ago.

I'm pleased to see you enjoying the Canadian books, and that works well, just every now and then.
