CHALLENGE: Paris in July 2011

Paris in July is being hosted again by Karen at BookBath and Tamara from Thyme For Tea . I participated last year, reading and watching a variety of genres. The best was watching Ratatouie. I can't believe I hadn't seen it before.
The idea is to read or watch or cook or bake or anything else that you dream of posting about France. Bonne Chance!

Possible Ideas:
Nonfiction: Lavoisier in the Year One:The Birth Of A New Science In An Age Of Revolution (Great Discoveries)
Watch Coco or La Vie en Rose
Fiction: Virgin Blue by Tracy Chevalier
a mystery by Fred Vargas
Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert (some year I'll get this actually read!)
Madame de Stael: The First Modern Woman by Francine Gray (I started reading this on dailylit.com last year)

What I actually did:
1. watched Midnight in Paris at the theatre
2. read The Virgin Blue by Tracy Chevalier
3. read Lavoisier in the Year One by Madison Smartt Bell

I participated last year too, and thoroughly enjoyed it, so have signed up again for this year. No idea what I am going to do though.

Moi aussi!
I had so many listed last year, that I got to recopy my list for this year. I don't even know what new will catch my eye.
I have tons of books about France I want to read, and movies I want to watch. And what's not to love about French food?

By the way, I loved Madame Bovary. I was dreading it but I thought it was a riveting story. She's not a very likable character but Flaubert does a masterful job, I couldn't stop reading it.

Coco Before Chanel was a great movie, also La Vie En Rose. And if you haven't seen Amelie I highly recommend it, one of my favorites. Vive la France!

Good to hear that Mme Bovary is very readable. Maybe I'll try it on dailylit.com, at least to get started on it.

I have seen Amelie, and I did love it too. So delightful!

I had French Fries for supper, :)
The Elegance of the Hedgehog is another possibility for a French read. I'm seriously thinking of joining this challenge.

I read The Elegance of the Hedgehog last year in July. I liked it. She has another book as well that would be good for this challenge. Hope you join in!

You've been awarded the first gift for being one of the first people to have posted on the event. Thanks for playing. Just email me a postal address and I'll put something in the post for you soon. thanks! email has been sent. Surprise awards are the very best!
I love Madame Bovary. I think it's one of the better known French works, but it never fails to disappoint me as it tells so eloquently about the damage that utter selfishness can cause.
