CHALLENGE: Countdown Challenge 2010

Michelle from 1MoreChapter is hosting another version of the Countdown Challenge, but adding in the 2010 books. It runs from 9/9/9 til 10/10/10. Last year week I completed the challenge and read the required 45 books so I decided to sign up again. The idea is to read ten books published in 2010, nine published in 2009, eight in 2008, and so on all the way back to one book published in 2001. This is how she suckers us into doing the In the Pub '10 with her!
I'm making a list of potential books, so I won't forget what I hope to read. This list is subject to change.

total so far: 55/55!

2010 - read 10 books

2009 - read 9 books
2008 - read 8 books
2007 - read 7 books

2006 - read 6 books

2005 - read 5 books
  • The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo - Stieg Larsson (original Swedish publication)
  • The Paper Moon - Andrea Camilleri (original Italian publication)
  • The Girls - Lori Lansens
  • Nikolski - Nicolas Dickner (original French publication)
  • Crossfire - Miyuki Miyabe (translated publication)

2004 - read 4 books
2003 - read 3 books
2002 - read 2 books
2001 - read 1 book

  2. Ooh, I really want to do this but I know I'll never get through all those books in one year. hehe. Best of luck though :-D I'm sure you can do it.

  5. Oh so tempting... I couldn't finish the last one because newly published books are just too expensive for me over here, but I loved filling in the rest of the list... Maybe I'll join again and do everything besides 2010... Hmmmm... :-)

  6. Dear participant of the genre challenge,

I am happy to announce that the genre challenge blog is finally up and running! Due to some real life problems, this has taken longer than planned, but now that it’s finished, I invite you over to come and take a look. It’s at http://genrechallenge.blogspot.com/

According to my information you have already completed the challenge, and as such, you are eligible for the prize drawing. You can read about the (changed!) prizes at the new blog, and the winners of the prize drawings will be announced there on 2 November 2009. Also, after you’ve checked out the new blog, could you fill in this small questionnaire? You can just leave the answers in a comment under the Prizes and People Eligible For Them post. Thanks in advance!

    1. What do you think of the set-up of the new genre challenge blog?
    2. What did you like best about the genre challenge?
    3. What didn’t you like about the genre challenge?
    4. What could be done better next time?
    5. Which genres would you like to see included in some way in the challenge?
    6. Would you join the challenge again (running from 1 January 2010 – 31 December 2010)?
    7. Would you be interested in a mini-challenge based on the genre challenge, only this time reading a novel, a short story, a collection of poems, and a play?

    Thanks for joining this challenge!

    Happy reading,

    Samantha

  9. jenny - since it's all based on publication year, you can read whatever type of book you like. The new release section is the hardest for me, but it goes to October next year so should be easy enough.

ceri - you can try and do as much as you can. Challenges aren't always meant to be finished.

3m - it was a fun challenge, so I thought I'd try again. I have liked the IMPAC winners, so I am looking forward to Man Gone Down.

susan b - awesome! the more the merrier, and you just read like usual and check the publication date after.

joanna - exactly! that's the spirit. I notice that by September more new released books are available. I don't get any ARCs so reading ahead isn't an option for me.

samantha - thanks for the survey. I'll fill it out later.

rebecca - glad you are joining in this year. And thanks for the award! Very thoughtful.

nan - thank you, stop by and browse any time. You have the most interesting life!
