CHALLENGE: Orange January

It's time to start thinking about an Orange January! Will it be books from 2011 list, or into the older titles? Check out the Orange Prize Project blog for more ideas and the Facebook group for ideas and possibly prizes!  Every January and July, fans of the Orange Prize read all they can in celebration. The actual requirement is only to read one book.

Orange January Ideas:

Books in my house:
Beyond Black by Hilary Mantel (2006 short list)
Small Island by Andrea Levy (2004 winner)
The Colour by Rose Tremain (2004 longlist)
Larry's Party by Carol Shields (1998 winner)
Love Marriage by VV Ganeshananthen (2009 longlist)
Old Filth by Jane Gardam (2005 shortlist)
Black and Blue by Anna Quinlen (1998 longlist)

Books from the library:
The Septembers of Shiraz, by Dalia Sofer (2008 longlist)
This is How, by M.J. Hyland (2010 longlist)

Black Water Rising by Attica Locke (2010 shortlist)
The Tenderness of Wolves, by Stef Penney (2007 longlist)
House of Orphans by Helen Dunmore (2006 longlist)

And the books I read, with reviews linked:

I am actually participating next year YAY got my act together hehehe. You have some good books there on your list. Are you planning on reading all or just as much as you can in January?

Yay for Mandy!
I just list a pile, and what I read, I read. Four is probably my record for an Orange Month, but I am happy with even one or two.
So many wonderful books to choose from! I may read Mantel for January too. Thanks for the OJ plug! =)

Mantel's other book, The Giant one looks even more intriguing to me.
Love the OJ event!
I read Larry's Party last Orange January and absolutely loved it. Black Water Rising is one of my all-time favorites, but I seem to be the only one who loves it obsessively. I hope to get to both Small Island and The Tenderness of Wolves either in December or January. Good luck and happy reading!

I am trying to read Carol Shields books, and I am kind of trying to go in order, so I doubt I'll make it to Larry's Party. Good to hear about Black Water Rising -sounds promising!
Oh, thank you for reminding me about this. After July, I'm always thinking "too soon too soon" and then, because it's a new reading year, I completely forget the whole Orange January thing by the time it gets here! I'm going to start making lists... ::rubs palms:: (Good chance Small Island will be on my list as well.)

Second one who mentions Small Island, hmm. Glad I was able to remind you. You did such an amazing job with the Orange nominees this year, you must not have many possible books left to read!
Like Buried in Print I have to thank you for the reminder!
