BLOGGING: It's Tuesday, where are you?

Where does reading take you? It not only takes me to places, it takes me away. It takes me away from the correcting that I have to do, but only for one more week, it takes me away from the cleaning I should be doing, it takes me away from the gardening I should be starting.

My reading this week is taking me to Europe. I am in Sarajevo as the country is under siege and I am by times terrified as I try to get some clean water to drink, and outraged at the situation the city is in and how the citizens have changed. A cellist has begun to play amidst the rubble. (The Cellist of Sarajevo)

Everytime I sit down in the living room I am enjoying the foods in Mediterranean Wine Bars from Barcelona to Venice. The recipes and pictures are reminding me of the cruise I took two summers ago with my mother and sister. We finally have the real recipe for Tomato Bread that we ate the first night in Barcelona at Qu Qu's. Eating outside on a warm August night, with the night life of Barcelona and the anticipation of our adventure to come, with a glass of wine is one of the most perfect nights I can think of. Where is reading taking you today?

  1. I am in Roman Britain fighting against those dastardly Romans (Dreaming the Serpent Spear by Manda Scott) and also in Regency England just having met a gang leader who might yet turn out to have an aristocratic past (Lady of Desire by Gaelen Foley)

  2. I'm in Tokyo with a young boy who is looking for his father. It's only the beginning of David Mitchell's number9dream so I don't really know what's going on yet!

That recipe book sounds good! :-)

  5. I am in Bristol England on a case with Jack Caffrey, we've just found a dismembered hand in the harbour. (The Ritual by Mo Hayder)

I'm also following the mousetrails of London with Basil of Baker Street and his trusty sidekick Dr. Dawson as they search for twins who were wickedly kidnapped. (Basil of Baker Street by Eve Titus)

  7. I'm once again in some nameless place in some vague time period. Let's just say that wherever Snow White happened... I'm there... but 100 years later. The book? Mira, Mirror by Mette Ivie Harrison. (I only have one chapter left to read today, so I'm soon to embark for a new location! And who knows where that will take me!)

  8. I'm in Boulder Colorado where a man has forced his way into my office. My partner and I share office space for our psychology practice. This man brought his ex-wife's divorce attorney and barged into my partner's office where she was with her client, his ex-wife. He then shot the divorce attorney and killed both his ex-wife and himself. Luckily, my partner Dr. Diane Estevez is OK.

Wow! What a first chapter, huh?? Private Practices by Stephen White (#2 in the Dr. Alan Gregory series)

  9. I'm just leaving Chile on a boat headed to the goldmines of California to find the man I love and the father of my unborn child (Daughter of Fortune)
I am also trapped in a city in Algeria which has been closed off from the rest of the world because of a mysterious outbreak (The Plague - Camus)

  12. I didn't have to travel far this week! I'm in Orange County, California in 1968. I've met Timothy Leary, Charles Manson, and Richard Nixon. I'm really hoping Detective Nick Becker finds the person who killed lovely Janelle Vonn.

  13. I am bouncing back and forth between Iran (pre-revolution) and California as I find myself in the middle of an enjoyable memoir--Laughing Without An Accent by Firoozeh Dumas. This a sequel to her equally good first book, Funny in Farsi. It has been interesting to see the culture of Iran through a large and loving family network. All things Iranian are not always viewed as positive in our society but I have grown to love all the charaters in her family!

  14. Oops! I forgot to add that I am also on the island of Sumatra, just after the invasion of the Japanese army. I am about to be interned in a prison camp, which will not be pleasant by any stretcho of the imagination. The book: Song of Survival by Helen Colijn.

  15. This week my reading is taking me to New York City where my sisters and I are enjoying, or maybe I should say suffering, a quick rise to modeling fame. None of our lives are private anymore, our mother barely cares for our wellbeing (not to mention she's offloaded our brother onto our absentee dad on a whim), and it doesn't really matter what we want, but we do have that incredible billboard in Times Square.... 16. I'm always amazed at where people are. Thanks for doing this, raidergirl3.

Myself, I'm in a remote Russian province in the late 19th century, just beginning the investigation of the poisoning of a rare white bulldog with an Orthodox nun by name of Sister Pelagia (Sister Pelagia and The White Bulldog, the first of a trilogy, by Boris Akunin)

  19. hi everyone! thanks for playing this week. I won't manage individual responses to your posts like I like to today. The month of June in high schools and real life never mix too well. Add 3 kids playing soccer, not on the same night or field, and things are running crazy.
    Happy Reading!

  20. Missed Tuesday again! I seem to oscillate between north and south because I'm back in the deep south (Mississippi). You'd think real life in Texas would be hot enough! :) Hope June goes smoothly--sometimes life goes too fast!
