Where does reading take you? It not only takes me to places, it takes me away. It takes me away from the correcting that I have to do, but only for one more week, it takes me away from the cleaning I should be doing, it takes me away from the gardening I should be starting.
My reading this week is taking me to Europe. I am in Sarajevo as the country is under siege and I am by times terrified as I try to get some clean water to drink, and outraged at the situation the city is in and how the citizens have changed. A cellist has begun to play amidst the rubble. (The Cellist of Sarajevo)
Everytime I sit down in the living room I am enjoying the foods in Mediterranean Wine Bars from Barcelona to Venice. The recipes and pictures are reminding me of the cruise I took two summers ago with my mother and sister. We finally have the real recipe for Tomato Bread that we ate the first night in Barcelona at Qu Qu's. Eating outside on a warm August night, with the night life of Barcelona and the anticipation of our adventure to come, with a glass of wine is one of the most perfect nights I can think of.
