BLOGGING: It's Tuesday, where are you?

I hope you come back tomorrow as Suey and I begin a new game: Bookword. So many of you are creative and imaginative that we look forward to your suggestions for some book phrases that need to be named. I finished Bel Canto last week and realized I didn't find the title drop, and I still didn't know what it signified. I was pleasantly surprised to reference bel canto today in my newest book during a passage about an opera singer.

I am experiencing life in 1840s Chile with a Daughter of Fortune by Isabel Allende. I've been wanting to read an Allende for the Latin American Challenge, so I asked a friend who is a fan to bring me one of her books: surprise me. It is looking good so far and I am on a journey unlike any I've been on before

Where is reading taking you today? Leave a comment, make a post, spread the word.

  10. Oh, Allende is a fantastic author! I am so excited you are reading her for the first time! I have been contemplating rereading Daughter of Fortune this year, but haven't made a final decision yet. Maybe your review will inspire me. :)

You know it is sort of a duology, right? Portrait of Sepia is not as good, but still worth reading if you like Fortune. :)

  11. I'm in Dublin. I'm investigating the murder of a young girl. She was found not far from where two of my friends disappeared when I was 12. Twenty years ago, the three of us were out playing in the woods and they never came home. I was found by the authorities with bloody shoes and no memory of what happened.

In the Woods by Tana French. It's one of those books that makes me wish I didn't have to go to work or do anything but read it straight through.

I have just left behind the war in the Crimea where I was engaged in the nursing experience of a young woman who was taken to the war zone by Florence Nightingale (The Water Horse by Julia Gregson)

  15. This week I'm in England trying to decide whether I want to stay with my wife who is more in love with her ideals than with me or go back to my lover who reminds me of my none too happy childhood on the island where my mother died (Canvey Island by James Runcie).

  17. I have Allende on my list to read later in the year. I've not read anything of hers yet so looking forward to it.

Today I am in San Diego with Frank Revere in Geoffrey Gluckman's Deadly Exchange. It's such a fast-paced thriller though that I have no idea where it's going to take me next.

  18. Speaking of Latin American authors, tune into tomorrow's Great Wednesday Compare...

I'm pretty far away from Latin America this week. I'm just outside Kenora in the 1970's (David Bergen's The Retreat.

  19. Coincidentely, I'm also at a crime scene in Dubli, reading In the woods by Tana French. It's a literary page-turner that makes me wish I didn't have work and could stay in bed and read it straight through!
