TOP TEN TUESDAY: Top Ten 2014 Releases I Meant To Read But Didn't Get To

Top Ten 2014 Releases I Meant To Read But Didn't Get To

Each week The Broke and the Bookish host Top Ten Tuesday

Just yesterday I was looking through some of those 'Best of 2014' lists and was trying to remember a few that I would like to get to this year. And now this is the Top Ten topic for today? Cool. A few of these I already have on request from the library, so I will get to them.

The Martian by Andy Weir

How to Be Both by Ali Smith

Yes Please by Amy Poehler

All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr

The Storied Life of AJ Fikry by Gabrielle Zevin

Can't We Talk About Something More Pleasant by Roz Chast

Walt by Russell Wangersky

Not That Kind of Girl by Lena Dunham

Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng

Any thoughts? Suggestions? Which ones do I *have* to get to?

If I ever get around to posting a best of last year list, the Chast and Zevin books will likely appear on it.

I'm on the waiting list for the Poehler audiobook from the library and I had the Doerr hardcover on loan, but just didn't get to it over the holidays. I'm back on the waiting list for it again.

I am on the waiting list for the Chast, plus it's a graphic novel, so I'll definitely get to it. Good to hear it's on your 'best of'.

My library doesn't have the audio of Poehler, which is just wrong. I must request it. The Doerr is a little scary; Germany and all. I hate when I request a book and then can't get to it.
I've read two of those. The Amy Poehler book was good, just not as good as I hoped it would be. I hated the Lena Dunham book, but I know others who liked it.

Comedy is so subjective. I don't watch Girls, so I'm not even sure if I like Lena Dunham. Amy and Tina are so funny and smart together that she gets a bit of a pass - I"m sure I'll like it.
Oh you will like the Poehler book - I just didn't think it was as good as Tina Fey's. I like Girls - so I thought I would like Dunham's book. I'll be curious to see what you think.
It seems that I can't leave 2014 behind; there are too many books I've seen that I want to read before moving on to 2015. My list is similar to yours in several places, particularly The Light We Cannot See. Right now, I'm reading Michael Faber's The Book Of Strange New Things, and it's quite weird and marvelous. But, I've heard fabulous things about all the ones on your list. (Although personally, I'd leave comedienne's behind.)

I'm not ready to look for new book from 2015 - there are still a bunch from 2014 I want to read, including the latest Number One Ladies Detective Agency. Those books are so peaceful.

Weird and marvelous? interesting combination.
Good grief. My list would be SO LONG. I really slacked on reading in 2014! But, The Martian is awesome and you should read it!

I was hoping to listen to The Martian, but my library (and my sister's in Halifax) only have the e-book. I'm reading The Human right now, which is a sci-fi type book.
We have many of the same books on our list! Which one is going to be first to be checked off? :)

Walt is waiting for me at the library, so my money is on that one. It's a Eastern Canadian author, so lesser known.

I almost put Landline on my list! I figure it'll be easier to get one of her older books first
The Storied Life of AJ Fikry didn't make my list, but it should have. I have the audio version and was thinking of listening to it soon. Maybe.

Everything I Never Told You made my list too. :-)

I have heard about most of these books during the past year, but Everything I Never Told You was one I saw on some of the lists, and it intrigued me. It's not at my library yet.
I feel so accomplished, as I have read half of these! I am the only person in the world who didn't love AJ Fikry, but Yes Please was one of my favorites last year. How to Be Both is simply brilliant. It's exceptional. Perhaps it will reappear on the Bailey's list this year? I hope so.

Hey, you called it with How to Be Both being on the Bailey's list. I'm on a waiting list at the library now.
