Arr, most of my reading this week will be physics final exams. But then it'll be just books. Not that I don't read all the time when I should be correcting, but it will be guilt free.
This week I'm having trouble getting fixed on a location. Sometimes I am in Pakistan and I appear to be caught up in a plot to assassinate the president. I'm in army training right now. (A Case of Exploding Mangoes) But every now and then I head to Sierra Leone where I am about to become a child soldier. It's a long way gone, and I think I'll need some lighter fare to read pretty soon.
Where is reading taking you today?
I'm in modern-day England (yet again)looking for the truth about Shakespeare's identity (Chasing Shakespeares).
ReplyDeleteI'm back and forth between the Golden Age of Greece and the Ottoman Empire in 1799, watching the Parthenon be built in one age from the perspective of courtesan of Pericles, Aspasia, and watching it's deconstruction in the other from the perspective of the wife of the man who brought the Elgin Marbles back to England. (Stealing Athena by Karen Essex. So far an excellent book, being released next week.)
ReplyDeleteI'm in Russia! That's because I'm back into War and Peace for the time being. In between, I'm hanging out in a high school in Arizona... I think. (Life, Love and the Pursuit of Free Throws!)
ReplyDeleteI'm in the midwest (probably Indiana) in the very early 20th century. The Ambersons are a family of wealthy aristocrats, but the grandson George is a spoiled arrogant brat at this early point. I'm only on chapter 3, but folks in town are already looking forward to when Georgie gets his come-uppance.
ReplyDelete(The Magnificent Ambersons by Booth Tarkington)
Until midnight, I was on a safari in 1970s Zambia, trying to thwart the assassination of their peace-loving, anti-apartheid president.
ReplyDeleteI hate marking exam papers! Good luck
ReplyDeleteI'm in Sacremento looking for my lover who has disappeared in search of gold (Daughters of Fortune)
I am also in Georgia just before the war starts, at the moment the novel has only just begun and I'm disappointed by the upcoming wedding of a beau (Gone with the Wind).
F
I'm outside of Forks, Washington at the Cullen's house with Bella. (Eclipse)
ReplyDeleteStill hanging out in Haiti, having just started the second book (Master of the Crossroads) of Madison Smartt Bell's Haiti trilogy.
ReplyDeleteBut I'm also in south Lebanon while reading Cathy Sultan's book Tragedy in South Lebanon: The Israeli-Hezbollah War of 2006. Fascinating book.
But I do need to find something that's a bit lighter!
Sorry, to interrupt. I'm currently between books. I thought you might want to stop by my blog later and check out the Haiku announcemnet. There are some nice comments for you.
ReplyDeleteI put the book in the mail today and she told me it would be 10 days before it gets there. Again, here is another, I'm sorry. You'll have to wait a week before walking your bare feet in the Mississippi mud. :D
Oh yes, I went to Sierra Leone for that reason a few months ago. I think it ends hopeful--mostly. I was at a place where Something Wicked This Way Comes (presumably middle America), now I am in the depths of Vietnam (A Rumor of War).
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the grading! :)
I am in Roman Britain - still reading Dreaming the Serpent Spear by Manda Scott, which is where I think I was last week as well. That doesn't happen often!
ReplyDeleteI am also in Victorian England, in the land beyond Wall. (Stardust by Neil Gaiman)
Here's where I be: here.
ReplyDeleteI am simultaneously in Istanbul in the 1950s and in southern France in the 1970s. (The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova)
ReplyDeleteLink to me here.
I'm mostly in an old, Art Deco-style hotel in New York, courtesy of Suite Scarlett.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm all over the place at grad dances thanks to the short stories in 21 Proms.
I'm lost and hanging with The Little Prince who wants a picture of a sheep.
ReplyDeleteAs I reading a techno thriller, I have been to most of the Europe and finally Texas.
