CHALLENGE: RIP III

Mystery. Suspense. Thriller. Dark Fantasy. Gothic. Horror. Supernatural. Mwahhhh!!!

It's that time again, when thoughts turn to back to school. Ugh! A better thought this time of year is the Reader's Imbibing Peril Challenge, third edition. I'm not feeling as ambitious this year, so am only signing up for the Second Peril, commiting to read at least two books between now and October 31, 2008.
Carl is all about the pool of books this year, so here's what I've been hoarding recently:

Lisey's Story - Stephen King

Something Wicked This Way Comes - Ray Bradbury

High Spirits - Robertson Davies

The Night Country - Stewart O'Nan

Murder on the Strand - Daphne duMaurier

Voices - Arnaldur Indridason

Creepers - Joanne Dahme

Child 44 - Tom Rob Smith

The Borden Tragedy -Rick Geary

Hey, I'm reading The Plague right now and that probably fits this category of books.

  2. I keep forgetting about back to school, which is weird, it was all I thought about for years! I am looking forward to this challenge. :)

  3. We both have Something Wicked This Way Comes on our pool! I absolutely adored Lisey's Story from last year's RIP. I hope you do too.

  4. I will be interested in reading your review of Something Wicked This Way Comes as I haven't gotten around to reading anything by Bradbury yet.

  5. I have Voices - not in the Challenge, but to be read after I get Tainted Blood read (I got the second one out of the library before the first one was available!) -I really like this series - and I haven't read Lisey's Story but after I get Duma key, I want to read it next. I hope you get to them! lol and I read Something Wicked long ago, due for a reread soon, so I'm curious what you think of it. Good selection!

  6. Nice list! It took me ages (and a few attempts) to really get into Lisey's Story, but I'm glad I persevered as I ended up loving it.

Murder on the Strand is one of the few du Maurier books I haven't actually read. Look forward to your thoughts on that one, I'll have to get around to reading it sometime.
